Canine Behaviourist
Bjorn Olafsson’s world revolved around all things dog. He has been working with dogs professionally for over 30 years. He was a key dog instructor at the Icelandic Kennel Club in the 1990s. Today he runs his own dog training school along with his wife, Lara Hundaskoli Hemsenda Hunda who he has been with for 19 years and with a history of hundreds of clients and their dogs.
Bjorn has an award winning breeding programme (Breeder of the year 2013, 2014 of all breeds in the Icelandic Kennel Club) and has bred and owned over 50 champions with his affix Heimsenda. Under Bjorn’s leadership, Heimsenda Kennel is the Top recommended breeder of the Sheepdog club of Iceland. He has bred Border Collies over 20 years, Australian Shepherds for over 10 years now and has a new beed the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Björn has also bred Briards and Labrador
Bjorn was active in obedience and Agility and has a record of great success in both disciplines. Today he is an obedience judge for the Icelandic Kennel Club. He was board member and one of the founders of The Retriever Club of Iceland and a board member of the Miscellaneous Club IKC. He was also on the board of the Icelandic Kennel Club for 6 years and his last year was the Vice president of the Icelandic Kennel Club.
Bjorn’s main goal is promoting sensible ownership of dogs, their welfare and he works hard to guide new owners and their canine companions to a balanced, happy and rewarding life. Bjorn has a purpose built inside dog training arena where he has classes in dog behaviour, obedience, advanced obedience, show handling as well as providing lectures about dog ownership. He also offers Private one to one tuition and behaviour consultations.
Bjorn has attended education in England, first in 1997 with the British Institute of Professional Dog Training for First Grade and continued for his degree Graduate 2008. Bjorn has worked as a Dog Behaviorist for the city government in Reykjavik, Iceland and also works with many veterinary practices.
One of Bjorn’s passions and specialist areas is working with the Red Cross and companionship dogs. For over a decade, he has specifically trained dogs and attended with them to visit elderly residents to provide therapy and companionship.
