Julie has been training pet parents and their dogs and practising as an applied canine behaviourist for more than 30 years.

Julie also has a passion for training the person and enabling every person to have a socially acceptable and balanced pet. She is a qualified adult education teacher and specialises in the human-canine interface. Understanding the person has always been of huge importance to Julie as much as understanding the dog.

Julie lives in Hampshire where she shares her life with 4 Tibetan Terriers and a rescue working sheepdog. Her fields of interest include training (offering mental stimulus training through obedience and trick-training), and breed showing. Julie is also an A-list breed Judge for the Tibetan Terrier. She gets great pleasure in providing workshops in both Dog Training, Behaviour and ringcraft and her writing.

Julie took her love and passion for the Tibetan Terrier to the next level by becoming an Assured Breeder with the Kennel Club. She bred her first litter in 2010. Her aim was to produce the best pets possible in this breed, while maintaining type and fit for purpose. Julie’s aim was to give people a better understanding of the breed, showing them that they were not as complicated or as stubborn as many would have them believe and the importance of an early education.

An emphasis on training each puppy in the litters was hugely important, beginning with bio-sensory puppy training. Each pup received daily individual training from 3 days old, the training continued until leaving for their new homes. Each puppy left having received much or their basic training including being recall trained to the whistle, setting them up for the best possible start in life. She retired from breeding in 2021.

Julie works with pet parents and their dogs throughout the UK and across the world on a weekly basis via Zoom. Home behavioural visits take place across the UK.

She also set up and runs the Facebook groups – Tibetan Terrier Training and Behaviour, and Tibetan Terrier Grooming and Health. These groups find Julie doing a live Q&A every week for members to receive free help.

Julie ran a very successful Training, Behaviour and Grooming Centre in Essex (Ace Canine) for 13 years until a necessary change of location due to some health issues, took her in a different direction. This opened the door for the opportunity to put her years of experience into print, publishing Pre-Vaccination Puppy Training, It’s okay to be Alone, Clever Canine Solutions, and Grooming the Tibetan Terrier an Essential Guide.

Julie has trained dogs for Television, including, Blue Peter, Animals Do the Funniest Things, S Club TV, BBC Crufts Series. She was a dog trainer for Series 1 & 2 of the Underdog Show (she was the winning trainer for Series 2). She was also invited to train her own dogs for the Children’s series of the Underdog show.

At the Kennel Club’s invitation, Julie has made appearances at Crufts and Discover Dogs demonstrating and educating audiences for 5 consecutive years and has been extended an open invitation to return to this at any time. Julie is an assessor for the Kennel Club’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold, Good Citizen Scheme.

Julie continues to undertake behavioural consultations for all breeds large and small, across the UK and the world via Zoom. As much as she has had huge success working with people at greater distances, Julie’s passion for going into people’s homes for behavioural consultations, is firmly at the heart of her practice as a hands-on behaviourist. She deems this to be an honour and a privilege to get to work with so many wonderful pet parents and their dogs.
